Tzotzil /(t)soʊtsɪl/
This colourful culture are direct descendants of the Mayans. The Tzotzil main establishments are found in the highlands of Chiapas, which have been home to their culture for the last 2000 years. This culture is famous for the incredible art crafts and flamboyant attires.
Tzotzil women implement old millenary techniques passed on from mother to daughter in a tradition that traces back to hundreds of generations. For some indigenous cultures art crafts are a way to support their communities in an already very divided Mexican society.
Probably the largest change in the entire history of the Tzotzil is happening today as they are abandoning their traditional lands. To some extent this is the same global trend that we see among rural people everywhere and is driven by economic necessity.
